2025-26 Ruth First Scholarship at Durham University

Applications are invited for the 2025-26 Ruth First Scholarship at Durham University in the north of England. This is the longest-running scholarship for African students in the UK, established in 1964. After her murder in 1982, it was renamed in memory of the anti-apartheid activist Ruth First, who worked at Durham University in the 1970s and aims to keep alive the spirit of her life and work.

The Scholarship is available to applicants from southern Africa to take a one-year taught Masters course at Durham University. It covers tuition fees, maintenance, visa fees and travel. It is particularly targeted at people who have played a leading role in community, charitable or voluntary work.

The application deadline is 31 March 2025.
